Old Kilpatrick Carless Oil Refinery to get BIG cleanup and redevelopment

West Dunbartonshire Council has been awarded £1.98m for a Marine Park project on the Clyde. A new Quayside for Old Kilpatrick bringing 1000 jobs to the area and adding £125.4 million annually to the West Dunbartonshire’s economy. The transformation of this derelict land is well overdue and sure to bring much-needed positivity to the local area.

I’ve put together a bunch of information, quotes and links I found as I researched about the Scottish Marine Technology Park. I hope it makes sense and that you get a better idea of what it is all about.

Scottish Marine Technology Park

I think anything that can put Old Kilpatrick on the map is a good thing. We are well known for being at one side of the Erskine bridge the Forth and Clyde canal flows through our wee village and of course the Kilpatrick hills cannot be missed when in Old Kilpatrick. But now a Marine Technology park with words like Quayside being used. It sounds very exciting.

This project will transform this Clydeside 47-acre site that has not been used since 1992.

The initial piling phase of works is expected to be completed by March 2021, with other phases following later that year.

Local Old Kilpatrick residents had their say – Councillor Marie McNair

During consultations on the development of this land, our residents told us that the most important factors were jobs for the area and public access, and this funding will allow the Council alongside the Malin Group, to start work on delivering both of those at the start of next year.

Malin Group behind new Old Kilpatrick Quayside development

The Malin Group will be the company behind the development in Old Kilpatrick working closely with the council.

Third-party investment

It’s anticipated that the works will attract much interest from third-party investors from marine manufacturing.

Marine.gov.scot – Proposals

Here are pdf reports, technical/proposal documents that were released profiling the project and what it is all about. There is quite a bit of intense reading here but interesting to see what was being done from as far back as November 2018 and March 2019.
