GAVINBURN PRIMARY PUPIL STARS IN JACK & THE BEANSTALK
Emily Cooper from Gavinburn Primary and Hunter School of Dance in Clydebank does Six weeks of Panto.
Local Old Kilpatrick girl, Gavinburn Primary pupil and student at Hunter School of Dance in Clydebank – Emily Cooper is smack bang in the middle of six weeks of Panto this festive season. Starting rehearsals back in November she has worked hard to be part of this fantastic production at the Greenock Beacon Arts Centre, produced by Imagine Theatre.
INTERVIEW WITH EMILY
It was great fun to sit down and ask Emily some questions related to her experience in this panto and to find out some of the backstage gossip.
Question: How have you enjoyed doing your first professional panto?
Emily: It’s been great but also hard work. But I’ve learned so much already.
Question: Is it much different to performing your ballet dancing on stage
Emily: Not much different but I’m dancing with a group of dancers in the panto, so I’m not on stage doing a solo.
Question: What’s it like working with tv and stage actors?
Emily: It’s amazing and they are all so nice but my favourite is Jimmy Chisolm, he’s so funny. They always chat to me and they really make you feel part of the team. And they love their coffee. I don’t like coffee.
Question: Would you do panto again if you got the chance?
Emily: Oh yes! I’ve loved it and I’d love to do panto this time next year. It’s exciting and I love to perform and learn new dances.
Question: What’s been the best part of this panto so far?
Emily: I’ve loved every minute of it but it was amazing on Sunday past when over 50 students and parents from Hunter School of Dance (that’s my dance school) were in attendance. I arranged a mention for them during the show and we could hear them cheering backstage.
Question: What will you not miss about the panto?
Emily: Defo, the costume changes! At one part of the show, we only have a couple of minutes to complete our costume change. That’s pretty tough but we always get it done and on stage just.
Question: Finally, what is your favourite dance?
Emily: That’s easy, the part of the show where the Beanstalk grows we have a major part in making that happen and it’s done in the dark with amazing glow in the dark visual effects and lighting.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
This is a great panto for all the family. You’ll find grannies, grampa’s, aunts, uncles and kids of all ages dotted around this great multi-level theatre, all giggling along to the script and especially funny the ad-libbing.
The show is packed full of fun and good laughs, great songs and dance scenes and has it a cracking list of tv and movie stars such as Jimmy Chisolm (Braveheart, Take the Highroad, River city) Jane McCarry (Isa from Still Game) and Mark Cox (Tam from Still Game) to name just a few. One of the stand out funny characters in Lee Samuel who is amazing throughout.
The cast has plenty of interaction with the crowd and the storyline… well I’m sure you’ll take a good guess at what might happen, but I’ll leave it to you to go and see for yourself. BUY TICKETS
